I had no clue Scott Erickson's middle name was Gavin, so that was neat to learn. He was a favorite of mine when I was a kid, coincidentally sharing the same last name and professional team as my best friend at the time. I'd always tease him and ask him if he was related to Erickson due to their Minnesota ties.

On the other hand, having a common name is not all it is cracked up to be either. I'll likely never be the most famous person with my name with the rapper The Game sharing my full name (though his first name is spelled differently) and the bound-for-Canton Dolphins great Jason Taylor having that clinched. Worst yet when I played sports, I realized I had no chance of being the best to play with my birthdate, as I share that with Michael Jordan and Jim Brown.

There is some hope of your name staying alive with awesome people. Two of my students over the years have shared your first name.Jasonhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/09621987308885279741noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1709402326341729642.post-14294952007104779722013-11-01T19:44:04.321-07:002013-11-01T19:44:04.321-07:00I have a name that very few people have as well......I have a name that very few people have as well... Bert. It makes it easy...when I hear someone say that name, I know they are talking to me. However there was a girl in my high school named Roberta, and her friends called her Bert. Not cool.
I also had a Gavin in my high school. He would not have made your list of cool Gavins. He was a #@$%&*@#.Swing And A Pop-uphttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15366868132258608938noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1709402326341729642.post-83059461137931907552013-11-01T14:23:00.270-07:002013-11-01T14:23:00.270-07:00There was a band that I heard of once called Dance...There was a band that I heard of once called Dance Gavin Dance. They sucked. Gavin Volure was Steve Martin's character on 30 Rock for an episode or two.Marcushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/10439278650702057885noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1709402326341729642.post-88184340595709108442013-11-01T10:46:46.398-07:002013-11-01T10:46:46.398-07:00Maybe with a few of the lesser known minor leaguer...Maybe with a few of the lesser known minor leaguers, I could someday get enough guys together to field an All-Gavin team, but they'd be cellar dwellers for sure. A collecting goal for my Greatest Gavins PC, I suppose.

As for lady Gavins, I've never met one. But once I was watching a commercial on cable for skin care, or a dental product maybe.. and the actress talking about how great the product was had a "Gavin" written on the bottom of the screen. I thought it must have been a mistake by whoever made the commercial, but I guess there actually are a small handful of female Gavins out there, sadly. defgavhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15338984361942309651noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1709402326341729642.post-76081350673242068962013-11-01T09:08:42.085-07:002013-11-01T09:08:42.085-07:00Baseball: No hall of famers, but there is Doug Dra...Baseball: No hall of famers, but there is Doug Drabek and Doug DeCinces.
Football: Doug Martin is a pretty good choice for current players, but my Bills and CFL love tilt the odds slightly in favour of Flutie.
Basketball: I'll give Doug Moe the nod over Christie.
Hockey: Probably the best, since I get HOFers Harvey and Gilmour.

The only guy that crosses over with my 2/14 collection is Frederick Douglass.buckstorecardshttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17593364314991949335noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1709402326341729642.post-18941911020992477712013-11-01T09:03:31.113-07:002013-11-01T09:03:31.113-07:00I don't believe I've ever met a Gavin, and...I don't believe I've ever met a Gavin, and your post made me realize how thankful I am that my name has never been turned into a girl's name (although there's no telling what the future will hold).

Players who share my name: http://nightowlcards.blogspot.com/2009/03/blatant-rip-off-post.htmlnight owlhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/11673973790245316059noreply@blogger.com
