If They Were Full-Bleed

Here's a new series called If They Were Full-Bleed where we use Photoshop to reimagine old designs if they had been borderless, a style that came to prominence in the early 90s. Sound like fun?!

Let's take a look!

There's a fine looking card! This one even got imaginarily graded!

Here's an alternate-reality 1971 Topps. What's cooler than black borders? NO borders!

Fast-forwarding to 1992, here's what the flagship set might've looked like had it been a bit more inspired by Stadium Club.

That's it for today. What do you think?

  1. Cool looking alternates. I would have loved 1992 a lot more with that borderless design. As it is I sort of liked it at the time, got tired of it overtime and in recent years I have gotten back to liking it like many of the designs from the pre Junk years on through to the end of the Junk years.

  2. Very cool. I like my borders, but it's nice to see the alternate look.

P.S.: My blog is seriously lacking in photoshop skills.

    1. Thanks, Greg. Yeah, I wasn't exactly trying to improve the designs, just an idea for something to try.

If you ever need to outsource photoshop skills for a post, feel free to ask!

  3. Man those full bleed manips are awesome.Although much like black corners I doubt the corners would've survived.

    1. Yeah, I'm sure they'd be very condition-sensitive cards.

  4. PSA screwed the pooch again. I definitely see some chipping on that 72 Borderless Clemente ;)

P.S. Cool series. Looking forward to seeing future customs.

  5. Cool concept and nicely done, but I agree with Night Owl. I like the borders.

    1. Yeah, borderless flagship would probably upset a lot of collectors.

  6. The 72 looks great, but I am with Capt. Kirk -- that 1992 Topps design would work wonderfully with full bleed photos.

    1. Yeah, it would've been cool. Maybe full-bleed parallels or something?

  7. Awesome concept. My only critique would be that you should have kept the colored borders on the 1992 Topps card. Regardless of what I think, keep them coming.

    1. Well the idea was to remove all borders! But I get what you're saying.. no white border, but still the inner borders.. yeah, that would've been kinda cool.

  10. This is brilliant! The '72s work particularly well here. I'd love to see this treatment given to '91 Topps.
