Landing a Gwynn white whale

The legendary Tony Gwynn passed away on June 16, 2014. One year later, baseball still really misses the guy, especially Padres fans such as myself.

Just a quick post today to pay my respect and show off the latest addition to my biggest player-collection, the Gwynn PC.

2004 Topps Retired Signature Edition Tony Gwynn autograph
Big score for my 2004 Retired project! Right in the Venn diagram sweet spot of favorite player and favorite set. Been after it for over a couple years now. Very happy to finally land it.

While this was a white whale for me in its own right, I still need to track down the /25 refractor version someday hopefully. I suppose that's an even whiter whale! lol

Love you, Tony!

  3. Congrats on your pickup! I wished Topps did more products like this and not those artsy ones they seem to spew out.

  4. What a gorgeous card. Looking at those stats on the back . . . I wish '94 wouldn't have been a strike shortened season. 0.394 is pretty amazing, but chasing 0.400 in September would have been fantastic to follow!
