OMG Yaaaaassssss.... Carl Yastrzemski rookie card

I was loading up my cart for an online order the other day and wasn't too far from the seller's "15% off your order" threshold. I did a search for Yaz and saw a newly listed 1960 Topps rookie for comfortably under the price of a blaster.

Needless to say, I was all like "OMG Yaaaaassssss" and jumped at it. It's got rough corners and a crease around the brim, but I'm totally fine with that at such a great price ($13.31 after the 15% discount, with free shipping). I've got a respectable Carl Yastrzemski PC, but this RC was a big need I had hoped to snag one day, so it's great to finally land it.

Thanks for reading.

    1. Ha, yes, but I will still remind you of my "first dibs" if/when another Trout liquorfractor falls in your lap.

  3. Great grab Gavin! Is it possible to get more hobby satisfaction than this with $13 and change? Doubt it!

  4. I really hate to say this, and I hope I'm wrong, but the four rounded corners make me think of the counterfeit cards A Penny Sleeve For Your Thoughts was dealing with a few months ago. (http://pennysleevethoughts.blogspot.sg/2017/12/unplanned.html) The back also looks too light to me to be an authentic 1966 Topps. Again, I hope I'm wrong, but I'd take a good look and compare it with other '60 Topps cards.

    1. Yeah man, the first thing I did when I got it was put a couple '60 Topps commons around it to make sure the card stock matched, and it was the same. Those counterfeits you're referring to had "perfectly rounded" corners and otherwise mint edges. This card obviously has jagged corners, and while the one-touch may hide it in the photos, the edges aren't great. Plus there's the raunchy crease (that doesn't look too bad in the photo, but in the right light is hard to ignore.) So I'm pretty confident it's legit.

  5. It's funny what you learn when reading posts such as this.

I always thought of Yaz patrolling the Green Monster. Had no idea he started as a 2nd baseman!

    1. Yeah, it's funny. No MLB action at 2nd for Yaz, though he did have 33 games at 3rd.

Related fun fact: Hank Aaron had 43 games at 2nd, and 7 at 3rd!

  8. A Yaz rookie for under $15? That's awesome!

  9. This card is way too old and not in gem mint condition. I'd much rather spend the extra $7 for a Donruss DK blaster, so I can pull a bunch of logoless cardboard. ;)
