Card Show Comfort

Bill, my "usual dealer", was back at the monthly card show today after missing the September show. So it was back to my old routine and I spent the whole show going through his bins.. some were 7-for-$5, and some were 50¢ each (He also had some quarter bins out, but they were pretty packed and I didn't feel like elbowing myself in.)

Oh yeah! These Trouts were probably my best finds of the day. The cheapest "Ginter rookie" (his 1st A&G card) on COMC right now is $9.15.

I don't mess with football much, but when I came to a stack of Pat Mahomes II, one of the hottest names in the NFL right now, I snatched them all up. Looks like most of these are going for over 4 bucks a pop on COMC, so good score on my part.

A haul of cards celebrating 10 years of Cards on Cards

Cards on Cards recently reached the milestone of a decade of cardblogging. Kerry generously celebrated with free group break for his readers. I jumped in and and snaked the Red Sox. Yeah, they're not my #1 team (sorry, Padres), but well, I collect a lot of their players, plus I've probably traded with more Red Sox collectors than any other team over the past year or two, so it's always nice to add some trade fodder. Seeing as he's a fellow Portland resident, we met up the other day to save shipping. I scrounged up a handful of Cardinals for him, and he gave me my haul from the break with plenty of bonus cards.

Nice Wade Boggs auto! I was pretty stoked to land one of the highlights of the big group break. Kerry tempered expectations by saying this card came damaged out of the pack, and yeah the upper right corner was dinged a little, but not as bad as I was expecting.

Some great additions to my Mookie Betts collection, highlighted by a 2014 Donruss The Rookies RC. There's only one of these on COMC right now and it's priced at a ridiculous $49.95.. Geez! He's making a strong case for 2018 AL MVP.

Unopened pack of '89 Score to add to my rainy day stockpile. I like this set despite being horribly overproduced and would likely pick up a set if I found it for ~$5 at a card show sometime. So yeah, should be a fun rip.

Finally, a little cloth. Love the Hosmer relic. He's been solid for the Padres this year, though the team has had a lousy 2nd half. (I'm deeply troubled about reports they're looking to give up some of their top prospects in exchange for a starter like Chris Archer or Syndergaard.. NO!! Trust the process. Just have patience for another year or two. Don't do anything stupid and screw up the future.) And Kerry must've remembered my post talking about my love for Rilo Kiley / Jenny Lewis, hooking me up with this cool little patch.

a pair of COMC autos

Got my latest COMC order in today.. always a banner day for any collector!

I think it was my biggest order ever, with 100 cards on the nose. I feel like a dummy for not knowing sooner about the $5 future credit per 100 cards shipped in a month. My patience usually runs out at about 60-80 cards before I pull the trigger on a shipment, but I'll have to remember hold out for a hundred when I can.

I got myself a couple autos this time around, with Ozzie Albies being the priciest card in the package. Kind of an impulse buy, as he's not really a guy I collect as of yet, but seems like an exciting young player to watch, and I wanted to snag a nice card of his for my collection. (And the pickup was partially because I once pulled an Inception auto of his a couple years back that I ended up trading to Bubba, and I didn't want to regret that deal too much if/when he becomes a perennial all-star, so this was essentially replacing the auto I pulled.) This one is from 2016 Bowman's Best. Love the giant, on-card auto, even if perhaps the Sharpie was starting to run dry.

I also wanted to score a hit of T.J. Leaf, a kid from my hometown.. as far as I know, the only guy from El Cajon to ever play in the NBA. This 2017-18 Panini Court Kings Fresh Paint auto called to me with a nice on-card signature and a /200 serial number on the back.
