1998 Godzilla - Glow-in-the-Dark spotlight

***Contest Reminder***
Time's running out to get in on the kickoff contest for my new 1991 MusiCards blog, so if you haven't already, be sure to enter soon. And if you pimped the blog, remember to leave a comment stating as such on the contest post if you'd like the bonus entry for it.

As Halloween approaches, I figured I'd feature some glow-in-the-dark cards in a series of posts here. I love cards that glow and have been working on expanding that minicollection of mine lately.
Today we're looking at...

1998 Inkworks Godzilla - Glowzilla inserts

Yep, Inkworks put out a card set for the 1998 Godzilla film (the Matthew Broderick one). All the cards in this product are "wideview" size: the shorter side is the standard 2.5 inches, though the other dimension is 4.5" (so an inch longer than standard 3.5").

There are 72 base cards in the set, though all I care about are the 6 glow-in-the-dark inserts. These "Glowzilla" chase cards form a puzzle.

Here's the full puzzle. I assume there are "tallboy" 6-pocket pages that these would fit, right? I'd like to binder my glowing cards sometime soon, though they're in a box for now.

And here it is glowing. Looks pretty good! I've never caught the flick, but this guy looks kinda like the offspring of a traditional Godzilla mated with a Xenomorph from Alien.

I bought the 6-card insert set in one go on eBay for a few bucks recently. These cards aren't very interesting separately, so you really need all 6 to have something. Though if you only get one, I suppose the head is the one you'd want.

Here it is glowing in dim lighting. Neat.

The backs each feature a little history of the Godzilla franchise. Seems the set was also released across the pond, as searching these cards on eBay results in several boxes of "UK edition" or "(European)". I bought these inserts from a UK seller, though as far as I can tell, the cards themselves are identical to those released in the US, only minor differences on the boxes.

And that wraps up this initial glow-in-the-dark spotlight. I hope to be back with a few more over the next 3 weeks or so. Thanks for reading.

  1. That is pretty bad ass glowing, it could have totally been a 1980s black light poster.
