Contest! (update, it's now closed)

Ok, I feel like I've been coming out of my shell, so to speak. I finally did my first online baseball card trade. I also entered into a group break for the first time. And then there was recently pouring my heart into an epicly long post about how I got into collecting cards.

It seems like there are hundreds of active baseball card blogs out there, maybe upwards of a thousand. That's a lot of options! I doubt anybody could keep up with all of them without making it a full-time job. Thanks for squeezing us here at BCB into your reading!

I'm already following a bunch of good ones, plus it seems like I stumble upon a few great new ones (new to me) every week. Please feel free to give me a nudge if I've somehow neglected to follow your blog or add it to my blog roll. Always happy to exchange links!

Technically, I didn't really complete a trade yet. But a guy sent me cards, and I sent another guy cards.. so that kinda counts.
(not a prize in the contest.)
There's a cool guy named Jason in Mass. who got a big lot of 1987 Stuart panel cards from Canada and has been generously sharing them with a few bloggers. I got a Padres one (Gwynn, Garvey and Kruk) and Brewers one (Molitor, Yount and Cooper). Cheers, Jason! I will send you some Red Sox soon to return the favor!

And back when I was posting about the mystery binder from Listia, Marcus at all the way to the backstop commented that he could use one of the Padres cards. He's always been super cool with me since I started this blog a few months ago, and I think he's probably the top commentator here, so I was happy to help him out. I also surprised him with a Fred McGriff rated rookie he needed and a few other random cards for the heck of it. He seemed pretty happy with them and said he'd send me some cards in return soon. Looking forward to 'em!

As for the group break, View from the Skybox is doing a big break of 2012 Panini Prizm. Still lots of teams left as of press time, so check it out and sign up if you want. Again, this is the first time I've signed up for something like this. Chris seems like a great guy and has been doing some neat stuff with his new blog over there, so I thought it'd be fun to be a part of it.

And since I'm getting into trading and group breaks, another hallmark of a community-active baseball card blog that I haven't done yet is a contest! For my first contest, I'm gonna keep it small and simple. Just comment on this post with your favorite team (UPDATE 9/12/2013: the contest is now over. Thanks to everyone who entered!). I was thinking the prize would be the cards that were featured in my recent Cards In Odd Places post. I realize those cards aren't super desirable, so I'll throw in at least a couple additional cards from your favorite team. Again, I'm just dipping my toe in the water here, and if everything goes smoothly, next contest I'll ramp up the prize with better cards. But still, a package of free cards just for leaving a quick comment..what have you got to lose? I'll enter everyone who comments into a list at random.org to pick a winner. Let's put the deadline to enter as Sunday 9/15/2013 noon Pacific. US addresses only please (sorry, International buddies).

So yeah, what's your favorite team?

  3. I'm a Dodgers guy. So, yes, I'm smiling more than usual lately. Had to enter this contest just for the chance to win a card featuring a popcorn frame.

Welcome aboard. Looking forward to following your blog.

  6. I don't want to get tossed into the randomizer, seeing as how you've already sent me cards (yours will be on their way tomorrow), but I wanted to maintain my rep as top commenter. Glad to see you joined a group break, the Padres are rarely taken, and I'm too poor to join that many, so they're usually available.

    Oh, and go PADRES!

  8. It is hard to continue to be a die hard Mariners fan. It has been a long 12 years since we've done anything. I still won't give up my team that I've been with since 1982.
