A quick PWE tournament

Ok, I've gotten over my Rainbow Brite kick.. now back to baseball cards.
I got three PWEs in the mail this week from generous trader buds. In the spirit of March Madness coming to a head, let's ruthlessly pit them against each other.

The first challenger is an unexpected envelope full of guys I collect from Johnny's Trading Spot.

Gavin - already got it
Donaldson - needed it-- but FOUL, the basket is no good! Refs call it for a dinged corner.
Bip - already got it
Brian Giles - pretty sure I need it! point
Hoyts - got these already plus doubles of them.

Trevor Story for three! I already have the Now & Then card, but 2 points for the flagship base, both needs.

Thanks, John! I've been slacking on that customs project for you, but will have some more "me time" starting this coming week since my wife's dragonboat team starts up practicing again, so I should be able to make some good progress there soon.

Next challenger is Stealing Home, who has been making it rain cardboard. The envelope I got was 100% Padres.

Denied in his opening possession! These are all cards I either don't particularly want or already have.

Solid shots with Alomar and Gwynn, but just dupes there. Ouch, that Chris Welsh was a brick! Never heard of the guy. Tyson Ross sporting the throwback duds looks good, but just an airball as I already have a couple of these. But what's this?! Buzzer beater! The Jankowski and Fernando are needs of guys I collect! Two points!

Thanks, OM! I dropped a return your way the other day.

Last up is a surprise PWE from Mark Hoyle. I wasn't sure what to expect here. Could he bust my bracket?

Do you believe in miracles?!

What a cinderella story! Nine cards, all of them needs for my 1965 setbuild, including Mets legend Ed Kranepool, a Tommie Agee RC, and that year's AL MVP Zoilo Versalles.

Hoyle is PWE champ, scoring 9 points uncontested!

Big thanks, Mark! Very appreciated!

That wraps up this PWE recap, though I also received a couple bigger packages of cards over the week that I plan to feature next post. Stay tuned.

  2. This is the PWE equivalent of the pack war lol. Fun post.

Sidenote, if the 2016 Spangenberg is available I'd love a shot at it.
